Experienced, unconventional Latin and English teacher

I have over 20 years of experience working as a university instructor and private teacher for students ages 11-50. Most of my experience has been in English as a Second Language programs for community colleges and research universities, including M.I.T. and Tufts University. For the past several years I have been assisting middle and high school students with Latin (I have studied over 11 years of that language) and have also tutored beginning German and English writing.

I'm most interested in tutoring on the high-school or college level, but I do have experience teaching young children as well. I believe that the biggest impediment to learning a subject is anxiety, often from a bad classroom experience, so my approach focuses on beginning at the learner's level and making sure to check every concept before moving on to the next one. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books.
