A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to lead the student into an understanding of the material through discussion, hands-on projects, practice and mastery. It is important to master the previous material before moving on to the new. It is also important to relate new topics to what the student already knows. This helps the student to not only understand it better but also to remember it better and use it correctly. I am patient and creative in finding ways to present ideas in ways that will connect with real life. I believe that all children can learn, given the right methods and the willingness to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

My desire to teach stems from my hopeful view of youth. During the past seven years I have been successful in promoting access to higher education to youth of diverse backgrounds by organizing educational workshops and/or working directly on school campuses. I have earned a B.A. in Communications with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in Chicano Studies, which has enabled me to gain skills in public speaking, creative writing and art. Because of my work with persons who have physical and mental problems, I have learned to be patient and sharpen my listening skills. This way I am also able to recognize when someone is frustrated or exhausted and use these signs to better cope with any behavioral problems that may arise. Over the course of my career, I have taught a wide variety of courses for age groups K-12 which include: English, math, history, geography and English as a second language. I am quite comfortable with classes of different sizes, at different levels, and with various teaching styles. I incorporate the tactile, visual and auditory teaching methods. I have also taught adults to read in the adult literacy programs at many libraries.
