Math Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Kingman, ME

I like to get to know the child, what they are having trouble with, and what their homework and study habits are. Throughout my 12 years of schooling Math has been one of my stronger subjects. I also took a two year accounting course outside of my school. I feel this qualifies me to help children out there that struggle with math. It would be great to start with younger children to improve their knowledge and study skills to get the grades they want to see on their report card.

Hands on, real life applications, very flexible depending on student. I have been a teacher for over 16 years. I graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Math. I currently am the Lead teacher at a special purpose school for children with disabilities. I have worked as an independent math tutor several times and have worked in the home or met at libraries. I work in Brewer and am will in to tutor during the week and on week end.

Working with younger children and teens has always been fun for myself. I think it's good to get to know the student on somewhat of a personal level. This allows for you to understand how the student thinks and learns, since every student learns differently. I am a very patient person and I try to find the best possible learning approach. I recently graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Civil Engineering in December 2009, which has given me a very strong mathematical background. I have completed courses through Calculus III, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. I have worked with children at the local boys and girls club, which included children in grades 4-10.

My teaching style is structured with my following a pre-determined outlined agenda which ordinarily would have an area designated for issues that the students wish to raise. Here is an example of my preferred prelab lecture: call class roll/roster my name course name and number priorities of the course problems I recognized while grading previous assignment give floor open to students for questions or issues the lab concept for today's lab demonstrate lab techniques/relevant calculations if necessary give floor open to students for issues/questions start lab All of my teaching experience in chemistry comes from my teaching General Chemistry Labs while pursuing Graduate Studies. This experience relates to my issuing pre-lab lectures prior to lab starting and this basically was designed to summarize the lab and work through example problems or demonstrations.

I love teaching and interacting with all students, although my preference is junior high and high school as I have helped out in these areas before. I love to help students who are struggling and help them achieve success which they had not thought was possible. I believe in determination and hard work and will teach my students these values in addition to commitment and work enjoyment. My goal is not just to help achieve success in students academics but also in all areas of their lives. For three years at Geneva College (2007-2010) I served as a math tutor, tutoring underprivileged, unmotivated, underachieving students at the local high school.
