My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : Java

Learning can be difficult when the fundamentals are not understood. Education becomes easier when the basics are understood. My teaching style assures the fundamentals are understood, the basics are known and then build on top of it. Students takes chances and learn on their own when they have the fundamental understanding. Students tend to cram the solutions when the basic are not understood. I combine the activity of teaching/training with my main job (software Architect/Developer and CTO of the Software Company I founded and own. I teach my students to become professionals. Most of my students look for job opportunities after my classes because they become confident that they can perform the job or do well in the class. My teaching style varies based on the child that I am working with that time. I have worked with children with all different kinds of learning styles, so I have learned over the years that you have to be flexible and mindful of the specific child that you are working with. Through my experience I have learned to be more patient, understanding and fair when I am working with the children as well as when I am grading their assignments. During the time that I worked with tutoring companies, I was able to tutor students at their homes as well as on the weekends in a school based setting. These two working environments allowed me to have a sense of diversity in the styles of which I taught the children.

My teaching style varies depending upon the needs of the child. I am patient and aware of many students’ stress around math. My goal is to improve each student’s basic understanding and confidence and to increase her or his enjoyment of learning. I select from a variety of approaches to any math idea or problem, and try to find helpful analogies, visualizations, and connections to what a student already knows. I teach effective problem-solving strategies.
