I believe that activities for my classes should be student centered, authentic and focused on individual learning styles. I attempt to create an accepting environment and choose activities that connect learning to something my students know or value. I evaluate the progress of my students with varied types of ongoing positive evaluation and I integrate technology into class activities. I enjoy an active, energetic classroom much more than a sedate, quiet setting.
My professional experience has been divided almost equally between teaching and administrative jobs. I first and foremost believe that every child can learn, and I refuse to entertain any idea that says otherwise. I have found that a constructivist approach works best for most children, and I will always try this approach first. I try to make learning as hands on and relevant to the real world as possible.
I graduated from one of the top teaching schools in the nation (according to NCATE), and have a degree in elementary and special education. I specialized in math education, but am also qualified to teach English, science, and social studies. I have worked with children as young as 2 years old and as old as 15 in a formal setting. I have over twenty seven years of hands on experience in the accounting industry. The standards in the accounting program at UAH are set very high. Through the 10 course curriculum, all the test were taken from the CPA exam. Children are so important and shouldn't be overlooked or neglected. I have a heart for children, and that heart has grown larger now having three of my own. I believed we have to cultivate their minds with positive influences and make learning fun and interactive. I was educated at UAB for a degree in Political Science and English. My English and grammar skills are impecable. I also obtained an MBA from UAB though my greatest business experience was actually working as a banker for fifteen years. I have a passion for helping youth through my church and have four daughters of my own.
