I taught school for four (4) years to ages kindergarten - seventh grade. I also tutored inner city children ages 5-12 for two (2) years. For the last eight (8) years I have been tutoring ages kindergarten- third grade. I took courses in psychology and children. I have a J.D. Degree, Masters Degree and Bachelor of Arts Degree. I studied foreign language and assited with children in math, reading, art, hebrew, bible study and reading. I am proficient in German and French. I teach to a mastery learning approach appropriate for language instruction. I present the material first in accordance with the text presentation, and then drill and quiz to ascertain the level of comprehension over the next several days. I ask all students to answer sample questions, and I am looking to see who does not understand what, and why. When deficiencies are discovered, I represent material in as many different ways as are ultimately needed to ensure comprehension and success. I am currently working part time as a ski instructor with children. This has taught me to be patient with the development of my students. It is incredibly important to maintain an atmosphere where learning is fun. I am certified by Oxford seminars to teach english as a second language. During the classes we studied general techniques for teaching english, that can be used for native speakers as well. I am a firm believer that there are all different types of learners, and thus teaching styles should adapt to the individuals needs. I specialized in poetry studying under one of the top T.S. Eliot scholars. As a literature major we studied a wide range of topics from early english to post colonial literature. This has given me a great appreciation of the english language.
