Florida Certified Educator for Elementary to High School

I have two decades of experience in education. My first 10 years were spent in adult education training adults to work in various organizations in the business world. My last 10 years have been spent in public education classrooms working as a teacher for elementary, middle, and high school students. I have taught core content courses at each level. Therefore, I understand how each grade level builds upon the teaching and learning of the previous grade level.
I have a collaborative style of teaching. My ultimate goal is to get students to think, regardless of their age. With younger students, I tend to be much more directive so that we accomplish intended learning. With middle and high school students, I ask "Why" and "How do you know" quite often so that they learn to provide evidence for their thinking. Getting the RIGHT answer isn't the goal -- understanding and developi ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon enrolling my children in school, I decided to be an active part of their education. So, I assisted their teachers with everything I could. Eventually, I became a trusted part of the school system (an honorary teacher, so to speak). They began giving me more responsibilities, concerning the children of the school. I tutored hundreds of students to increase their FCAT results, single-handedly; I corrected documents, daily; I worked on setting up the computers for the teachers and students, and I trained both to use them. I even learned magic, so that I could help teach the students their studies, in a fun and exciting way. Previously, I opened my own computer shop, and thus, I had a tremendous advantage of all sorts of software, and Internet knowledge, that would help educate the students. Since I had an ADHD student at home (my son,) I was quite active with the ESE program. I helped ... read more

15 years experience in a broad variety of subjects!

I have a way of perceiving the difficulty the student has, and am able to explain the material in a simple way that makes it easy for students to grasp. I have a good rapport with my student and have had several that have told me that I am the best teacher they have ever had(which didn't hurt my ego!!) I also have a good sense of humor which puts students at ease- and it is proven that a tense mind can not learn, only when the student loses their anxiety over the material will they absorb it!
I have been tutoring for over 15 years both in students homes or at public locations such as coffee shops or the public library. My education and experience are broad. I was educated at "Ivy League" level schools and purposefully educated myself in a large variety of the humanities, which in essence all tie together. Basic courses up through most High School material outside of the Humanit ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have been tutoring for many years both privately and for Title I schools. I have tutored k-12, as well as college students in most subjects. I love the arts, writing, and science. I have a passion for getting students interested in learning, getting creative, and learning art as early as possible. The same method applies to math and science, where I try to get students to see their subjects in different ways and apply the learning to what they love most or at least can relate to better.
I am patient and creative when it comes to teaching and visually showing my students different ways to apply what they learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

There is no greater joy than imparting knowledge to our future generations. I believe children’s minds are like sponges and readily accept a great amount of knowledge. It is my goal to assist them in soaking up information and forming a solid foundation for their future. I approach learning in several different ways as every child’s needs are unique. I hope to encourage children to truly understand information and relate it to everyday life. Once a child can relate what they are learning it reinforces the importance of a good education. I look forward to seeing a student's face when they finally understand something they previously had trouble with.
At the University of Central Florida I attended the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences. There, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Molecular and Microbiology. My focus was primarily science based classes therefore, I ha ... read more

I believe in the potential of every child and am committed to their academic achievement. Through my work with children and adults with disabilities, I have learned patience and understanding; qualities that I believe make me a strong educator. I believe in modeling a learning curriculum to meet the specific needs of a child and pride myself on finding novel ways to make education fun and interesting. The best part of education, to me, is the opportunity that lies in every learning experience.
Throughout my educational career, I have gained a strong foundation of knowledge in various disciplines. A Little Bit About Me...

My philiosphy is to motivate through praise. I believe in speaking words of encouragement to the students. I have seen positive words manifest into good results for the students. I do believe in teaching because as a mother this is one of the skills I know I had to dominate in order assist my own child to become a better citizen. I realize that what one deposits in this young generation we will reap as senior citizens. Therefore we must be doing good things in education to keep the next generation strong for our nations. I have had the experience of being taught by wonderful, kind, caring, and patient teachers. I have also experienced the teachers who are harsh, impatient, and ridiculing. Through these experiences, I realized that I learned much more through the teachers who were patient and caring. The teacher makes all the difference. Teachers are extremely important in molding and shaping the learning lives of their students. I strive to make learning fun and exciting, because a child/student who is having fun will want to learn more and not just the bare minimum to get by. These skills will last a lifetime. I know that each child/student learns differently, therefore, in my approach to teaching, I try to discern their learning style and best suit my teaching to fit that style. Children/students need exposure to a wide variety of concepts and in a wide variety of mediums. I am committed to prov ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly enjoy teaching Math and Science, the subjects that many students find challenging, difficult, or even boring. I believe that any child can succeed in these areas if the teacher/tutor makes the subject understandable. I am confident that I can make these subjects understandable with much encouragement and patience, and even a "reward" wouldn't hurt.
Most of my teaching experience has been the home-schooling/tutoring of my own children for several years. I have also tutored students in the "Linkage to Learning" summer tutoring program with the Maryland public school system. My A.A. and B.S. degrees have enabled me to appreciate learning and better understand the subjects I teach.

A Little Bit About Me...

In relation to the tutoring position, I have a year of experience in tutoring grammar school students in math and reading. As a graduate student at Mississppi State University, I was a teacher assistant for 2 years in Introduction to World Geography. These are the only two jobs I have had that are related to job that I am applying for.
Personally, I enjoy everything about education. I believe that if you can educate a person, then doors are opened for them. I am the type of tutor that gives basic instructions, then I allow the student to try a few things on their own. If they struggle, then I will step in and help them. I prefer to go over the same material as much as needed until the student is comfortable with the subject matter. Then, I like to move on to a new subject.

I have taught middle and high school students science since 1987. I have a BA in Biology and am certified to teach high school biology and chemistry and middle grade science. I recently completed level 1 and level 2 of my reading endorsement courses, and have used that while I tutor elementary students in reading.
I am a hands-on type of science teacher. I believe that there's more to learning than just from the book, so to speak. My goal is to give students the help that they need with which to succeed. I like to teach via real life examples and real life applications. I truly believe that students who read succeed, so I also have a great interest in helping the younger students succeed with reading.

I encourage students to relate among themselves, learn from one another. I listen to students for their knowledge and power. I learn from them, as they from me. I delight in lecture methods, as I do in smaller group situations, in which students team-up in groups of 4-5 and work through projects as a team. They then present their findings as a team. It's proven a remarkably powerful for students to produce results. I delight in team-teaching as well, both with other teachers and administrators. I'm committed to 'selfless service' as teacher.
Since my days as a graduate student, I love to learn, as both student and teacher. As teacher, I've taught Humanities at the Junior College level, teaching Fine Arts, Music, English literature and Philosophy. I've taught students to make connections, relationships, between what they see and hear. Sight and Sound, then, allo ... read more
