High school counselors steered me toward math and sciences. During my thirty years as an elementary teacher I taught third grade with the exception of second grade and fourth grade for one year each. After retiring my school district hired me to attend workshops on writing skills, then had me work with several elementary schools' at-risk students to boost their basic report and story writing skills. During that time I worked with a cadre of five retired teachers who evaluated both written and math work for elementary aged students.
