I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.
In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.

After graduating with a degree in history as well as with completion of pre-medical requirements I started tutoring students grades k-12 as well as college students in math, science, english and reading. After college I completed 2 years of FAA flight training and began teaching ground and flight instruction for all levels of pilot training (including aerobatics), which has allowed me to hone my teaching skills working with so many different age groups, personalities and cultural backgrounds. As a flight instructor I teach aerodynamics and basic physics while using math on a regular basis.
I work well with children and adults alike. My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.
In college, I was taught to organize topics in Math, Science and English, using outlines. This ensured that I studied all of the material presented in class. I am very patient and outgoing with students, I try to gain a good understanding of where there are at in order to help them understand what is needed and how to achieve their goals. I strive to make a positive impact on my students lives in and out of the classroom.
I have always been driven to learn and pursue and education, this led me to completing my bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in history from UC- San Diego. I enjoyed tutoring math, science and english while in high school and continued in college. After graduating I volunteered in Chile teaching English which greatly improved my teaching skills and improved my Spanish Language abilities.
