I have been drawn to teaching and working with youth for much of my life. Twenty Three years of varied teaching assignments have given me a wealth of education experiences to draw on. University years found me assisting in public elementary classrooms, The Braille Institute and as a camp counselor. My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.
