Coming from a smaller school, I understand the importance of one on one communication and teaching. Throughout middle and high school I tutored many of my classmates and friends, and continued to do so with whoever needed help during my college career at Ozarka. After taking Writing courses at UCA, I began to see how that one on one quality becomes lost in a larger school, so I began offering help to whoever appeared to need it. As a single mom raising four children, I received my degree in Elementary Education and have taught one year as a preschool teacher of children birth through five years with disabilities, seven years as a first grade teacher, and 13 years of students 6th through 8th grade. I enjoy working with all levels of students and my greatest desire is that each child is capable of excelling in all areas of their education. I currently provide care for 6 children (3 different families) which range in age from 14 months to 9 years old, one of which is autistic. I love working with all ages of children, and understand that each child is different in their style of learning. It takes a lot of patience and understanding, especially with children that have special needs. My goal is to greatly increase the knowledge of the student in order for them to succeed in their education. With my bachelors degree in Business Administration, I have gained many skills. I have a great understanding of writing and reading, with experience in professional essays, research papers, and checking for grammatical errors. My teaching style is a simple one: I use kindness with firmness and always attach a fun and tactile activity to make the learning memorable. My own learning style is more visual and hands-on, but I know that some children can learn by repetition and memorization, and if that's what works, then I'll adjust to fit that particular child's needs. I also use a reward system when agreed upon by the parent for when the child reaches small goals. I believe baby steps are what build confidence. I believe we all learn in different ways, and I am always open minded in finding the best way for that student I am working with at that time. I believe everyone can achieve the highest of goals if we all strive for that success and find out a way to get there. However, most of all I hope I can leave a feeling of respect for the studies and for the people around us. I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. I have tutored all through High School, College and thereafter.
