As a college senior, I've come to value greatly my education. Prior to enrolling at the University of Georgia, I made a perfect 800 on the math section of my SATs. Even though I am a science major, I have a great understanding of math. Currently, I tutor middle schoolers in basic algebra, most of whom are struggling and need a lot of help. I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what.
