Learning can be fun!!

I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in medical school in Hungary, I tutored Hungarians in English, and medical students in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and biophysics. My comments on tutoring GED : I had worked with students from a variety of cultural backgrounds in alternative schools preparing them for the GEDs. I have also been part of the exam process.

I am very aware of the necessity of adapting my teaching style to the learning modality of those I am working with. As an educator I evaluated students to define how they best process information. They may be auditory learners, visual learners or they may use a combination approaches. I am very patient and understand that everyone can learn. I believe in setting goals and evaluating progress to establish new goals when necessary.
I have taught in Michigan and in California. I also have credentials as a school counselor and psychologist. I have experience with all aspects of the special education system from the K through grade 12 level. This incudes testing, placement and re-evaluation and the IEP process. I also have worked at the post secondary level and am familiar with academic and financial aide requirements.

I understand the student to determine the best learning style for you and I make the transformation teaching you the material in an effective manner.
I first find out your true objective for learning the material. Is it a requirement and not in your field of study so you just want to pass the class or is this a part of your passion or career and really want to know the nuts and bolts of the subject. I can read about it, or hear a lecture about it, but seeing it helps me understand the subject. This type of teaching would be done with movies, drawing or acting out the situation. In my teaching, I try to use all methods available to me to help the students learn and to use their creativity. I especially try to get students to work in groups and to share their work with each other. I find that pier groups provide the best help in understanding the subject matter. As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive.
