My comments on tutoring Language Arts : I tutor students in the following: capitalization, periods, question marks, exclamation points, and commands. They learn the following types of nouns: common, proper, pronoun and subject, as well as predicate and verb. They learn the following types of verbs: present, past and irregular (to be, to have). We learn about sensory adjectives (stinky cheese, salty popcorn). Adverbs are essential, they tell where, when and how something happens. I use tutoring materials that are colorful and geared towards the specific grade level, for example Brain Quest and Spectrum. The students enjoy these immensely.

I was contracted with the Clark County School District to tutor students in the No Child Left Behind Program in January-May 2012. I worked as a school based counselor/tutor for schools in Seattle Washinton. I have a Master's degree in Psychology.I am still tutoring K-5. I also tutor adults that want to learn English.

Creating Independent Learners

My experience dates back to when I was in high school in the early 80's tutoring students and family members. Been in the teacher preparation program at Nevada State College for about 3 years now, started off in Step-Up program my Junior year of high school, have done some field observation at many schools, and have had to deal with one on one tutoring during the time I was there along with many fellow class mates. In my classes at NSC we have different preparation classes that are preparing us for tasks such as tutoring and handling difficult tasks such as helping students that aren't of the English language to learn in their own way the different techniques that we use.
