A Little Bit About Me...

Education has been my passion and dream for as long as I can remember. Furthermore, I followed my dream and graduated from Cal State California with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies and a concentration in History. Due to my education I am exceedingly familiar with classroom settings and the professionalism that comes with it. I also have accumulated plentiful hours of observations in different classrooms, along with many hours of volunteer help in numerous elementary and preschool classrooms. My first student teaching experience was in a preschool. The classroom was very play based and not very structured. I learned how to communicate with the students while they were playing and was able to help them learn through scaffolding I learned how to model positive behaviors to the children and stay away from the negative. I student taught in a preschool classroom. This classroom was inclusive and included many different kinds of learners. There were ten gifted children, two children with autism, one child with epilepsy, and the rest who were at benchmark. This was a great experience because I was placed with such an incredible seasoned mentor teacher. She taught me that being calm kept the children calm. I am a working, free-lance flutist here in LA. I have my BM degree in flute performance from CSUN, and have been playing for 28 years. I have always been the top or one of the top players in all venues I have played for. I currently play for many orchestras in southern california. I have been teaching all levels of flute for 20 years now. I also teach beginning to intermediate piano. Over a span of nearly 30 years, I have studied with some amazing flutists/teachers, and learned some wonderful teaching techniques.
The student's needs come first, so I always teach based on their long-term goals. Learning music should be fun, so I encourage this while pushing student's to be the best. Music has been the most important thing in my life for all my life. I love to bring that passion out in my students. Flute is a tool, a wonderful tool, for speaking the language of music.
