Proficiency is acquired with methodical steps.

I am a credential-holding elementary school teacher with experience ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Also, I have tutored children and adults in English language arts, from basic grammar to college composition writing. Further, I tutor other academic subjects: social studies, history, literature, general science, basic computer skills and creative writing. I hope that I can be of use to you!
My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.

A Little Bit About Me...

Working in volunteer capacities through various avenues I have been inspired to reach to higher education. I want to share the many things I have learned with the students in the Valley. I want to inspire students to seek higher academic learning goals. Motivating students to open avenues of literacy is my desire. I have spent many hours in volunteer capacity working with some of the excellent staff of the Hemet School District. Educating the students of today takes dedication, motivation, and a devotion to the students of this Valley. I possess those three attributes and through student teaching I have been able to use those attributes in a classroom setting.
I have been a parent volunteer tutoring elementary children for over 13 years. I did a long-term sub for a middle school charter school in 2008-2009 and implemented a tutoring progrma for the students who need extra supp ... read more

I hold a BA and MA, both of which are in the field of Biblical Studies. My research experience and written-communication skills have measureable depth because of the years I have invested in constructing essays, articles, and research papers; including my final MA project which was over 40 pages with a 15-page annotated bibliography (over 4500 pages of reading). During the last 3 years as a Pastor, I served in a tutoring capacity as well in our church’s after-school learning center. My role there was to assist children in grades 2-11 with homework, reading, and writing.
Given the proper environment and method(s), any student can and will learn. My role as a tutor is similar to Michelangelo’s role as a sculptor. When he was commissioned to sculpt the “David” statue, the giant block of marble for this work had been waiting in a cathedral-courtyard for almost 40 years. History records ... read more

I am eclectic in my approaches towards teaching, ranging from Montessori and Classroom Without Walls, to Behaviorist and Cognitive approaches. I use what is observable, measurable, and works. I am always prepared to pull a rabbit out of my hat, and I always prepare additional alternative lesson plans in case an approach does not seem doable. I begin tutor sessions with interviews to assess goals. The ultimate goal is always for the tutee to become an independent learner.
Tutoring is a profession which I have enjoyed for over nine years, often while teaching in the classroom or online, concurrently. I was able to teach multi-subjects to college students because I excelled in all subjects myself, receiving numerous scholarship awards and honors. I chose after school tutoring as my extra duty assignment while teaching middle school and high school. I enjoy tutoring students because I ... read more

Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.
As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
