Proficiency is acquired with methodical steps.

My approach is simple: assess the student's academic weaknesses, review the strengths, then teach the new material in order to bridge the content or skill. "Scaffolding" is the best means by which to teach so that the student understands the significance of the lesson. Too often, teachers play sage-on-stage, thereby neglecting to connect what the student already knows with the new material.
I am a credential-holding elementary school teacher with experience ranging from Kindergarten through 6th grade. Also, I have tutored children and adults in English language arts, from basic grammar to college composition writing. Further, I tutor other academic subjects: social studies, history, literature, general science, basic computer skills and creative writing. I hope that I can be of use to you!

If you don't like the results, I haven't done my job.

I won the state championship in the 100 meters and went to Adams State College in Alamosa CO. Broke a leg in track and received withdrawn F across the board. Left college and healed up. Went to the Army two years and reserve three years. Came back and picked up the quickest degree possiable. Moved to Hawwaii, three years. Became a ciritified dept of defense government contractor. Furnish and deliver contracts. Ended up moving back home to Albuquerque NM. I started working in the Indian Casinos for 13 years. I bought a house and retired. But now I'm tired of sitting around.
All I do is tend to my students needs. I'm personal. Like to get off track with my students and lead them back to the point.

Exciting and effective tutoring available!

I am able to effectively teach a group of kids, and I am also comfortable with the one on one teaching style. Regardless of the environment, I know how to make sure the needs of every student is met.
I have always had the ability to effectively teach my family, peers, and other classmates. However, I recently decided to get into the field of tutoring. My very first session, I fell in love with it. I am understanding that each student has different needs, different strengths and weaknesses. It is my job to reward those strengths, figure out those weaknesses and strengthen them. I am a young lady myself, but I know that the youth is our future. If I am able to have an impact on at least one student and their educational endeavors, I am pleased. Education is the key that will unlock the doors to the future of our youth.

A Little Bit About Me...

Given the proper environment and method(s), any student can and will learn. My role as a tutor is similar to Michelangelo’s role as a sculptor. When he was commissioned to sculpt the “David” statue, the giant block of marble for this work had been waiting in a cathedral-courtyard for almost 40 years. History records Michelangelo as a sculptor who strove to reveal the magnificent 17 foot masterpiece-image that was waiting to emerge. Through a discovery-friendly environment, I approach each tutoring opportunity knowing that I am helping a student to discover the desire to learn which is already present and waiting to emerge from within. It is my goal to have a positive impact on each of my student’s lives.
I hold a BA and MA, both of which are in the field of Biblical Studies. My research experience and written-communication skills have measureable depth because of the years I have i ... read more

Find out what level the student is at, what their interest are, what the like about learning or hate about learning and go from their. As each person is different and each person learns in their own way. Learning is not hard, finding out how to learn is.
As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.

Because I used to struggle with understanding my teachers, I recognize that when a student doesn't understand it is not because they are incapable of learning, but rather that they learn in different ways. Discovering different learning styles is what enables a teacher to help their student. I also believe that learning shouldn't just be reading and writing, and that students need breaks and hands on examples in order to keep them intereseted and involved in the learning process. I will be the first one to say I do not have all the answers, but I will guarantee that I will do everything in my power to find them for your student.
As a result of my love for children and my desire to help them understand content that does not come easy for them, I chose to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. I earned my Bacelor's degree in Liberal Studies from California State University San Bern ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am eager to help students get through school with less stress and more confidence in their learning abilities. Any student can succeed in education and life goals with top reading skills, so I concentrate on moving them through difficult assignments and future goals. Am a good communicator and empathetic instructor. Background, school and current desires, I take all into consideration on an individual basis.
I have been working with writers and self-publishing authors for ten years. Students I tutor in English, writing and test preparation are from junior high to college level. Am especially good with bi-cultural background students who want to learn, but know more than their parents or peers at school. Have assisted students improving grades from mediocre to B+ or A level with consistent help and student commitment.

Working in volunteer capacities through various avenues I have been inspired to reach to higher education. I want to share the many things I have learned with the students in the Valley. I want to inspire students to seek higher academic learning goals. Motivating students to open avenues of literacy is my desire. I have spent many hours in volunteer capacity working with some of the excellent staff of the Hemet School District. Educating the students of today takes dedication, motivation, and a devotion to the students of this Valley. I possess those three attributes and through student teaching I have been able to use those attributes in a classroom setting.

Fair, firm and consistent are my mantras of classroom management. In that, I believe that all children deserve a safe, clean, engaging, yet structured environment in which to meet their full potential. I firmly believe that learning is a team affair, and practice the standards of cooperative learning.
For the past year-and-a-half, I have worked as a long-term substitute teacher for the Palm Springs Unified School District, acting as the virtual teacher of record in dedicated classrooms on several occasions. Inherent in that experience, I developed lesson plans and graded student work, as well as liaised with parents and administration. I am versed in the California Content Standards across curriculums and have passed my CBEST, as well as my CSET.
