A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style depends upon the learning style of the student. For example, if the student is a visual learner then the student is taught using pictures, books, charts, etc. Or if the student is an auditory learner then the student is taught orally with pictures, books, charts used as supports. As a special needs teacher I individualized lessons for students.
I have 27 years of special needs teaching experience. I have taught students in all grade levels. I taught at the elementary level (K-6th) for 14 years; at the junior high level (7th-8th) for 3 years and at the high school level (9th-12th) for 10 years. My strength is teaching basic skills (reading and math) and organizational/study skills and helping students to realize their individual potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do not have a degree. I have been instructed by the teachers I have worked with. My style is to let the student know that they are to be attentive, polite, and to try their best to do the lessons. I tell them that I am there to help them and I do encourage them by rewarding with appropriate items. I have been raising a great grandchild, now 11 years of age. I adopted him at age 24 months. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Emotionally Challenged. I have learned a great deal working with the schools, teachers, PSR's and counselors. I love interacting with children and teaching them to the best of my ability. I know that each child is unique and you have to truly understand the child and the stresses and concerns they have with learning, before you can teach them. If they are willing, and if they are taught correctly, every child can learn. No two children are the same, and should not be taught as such. There are so many different ways to teach and understand a concept, and I try to search out the technique that best fits a child in need. I am a firm believer that there is nothing we “can’t do” if we are taught in such a way that we can truly understand. To turn on the light, you must simply find the right switch. I never let a student settle for less than they can do, but I do recognize when something is not working and techniques need to be changed. I am patient, fun, eager to teach and willing to learn.

I have love teaching and working with children since I can remember. I believe and a child needs a good trusting relationship with his teacher in order to learn the objective of the lessons being taught. In trying to build this relationship, I try to let them take the lead in their learning as much as possible and wait to see where I am need to most. I like to have visuals. They are important no matter what age. i use powerpoint, pictures, think of stories, and try to get the students involved as much as they can. People either learn, by seeng, doing, or both, so it is good to teach using all of the learning tools.
As a business major I learned alot about the importance of language and communication. I took classes in english, and writing. I was a tutor for over 100 students for 2 years in finance and taght a class twice a week on Microsoft Excel. In high school I volunteered at an elementary school to help children with ADD and behavioral issues for 3 trimesters. I was a staff member at Cedar Badge, a week long leadership training course for scouts, teaching leadership skills.
