I tutored college math for two years while I was attending community college. I normally helped athletes prepare for a test, help with online homework, and assess their knowledge by providing other problems for them to work out and check behind them. I also tutored man in the math section of the ASVAB back in the summer of 2012. I like to have one on one tutoring sessions free from any distractions in order for the student to pay more attention. I try to find videos and tutorials that may better help demonstrate how to work problems on top of how I teach it myself.

I am a huge advocate of learning 'why' something happens vs 'how' it happens. In mathematics, anyone can learn a formula, an expression, or an equation if they look at it enough times, but they would not know how to apply it in real life situations. However, if a students learns the application of the formula and how it works, bigger chances they will remember it or can derive it when recalling the information. Learning the 'why' WILL lead to learning the 'how' I have excelled in mathematics going all the way back to elementary school. Studied general mathematics in college. Have tutored at least 20 students on a variety of subjects in math, outside of school involvement. Worked in the math tutor lab at CSU during enrollment. My teaching style with younger children is to have a relaxed setting where no pressure in placed upon the student. I'm always sure to review my material before going into a new lecture.
