My comments on tutoring Dyslexia: I have had stellar success working with students with decoding disorders, though I do not follow a prescribed curriculum such as OG.

I love to incorporate art and sensory experiences into everything I do to really activate the brain. The "Drill and Kill" is very rarely appropriate, so I tailor every approach individually. What works for one student may not work with another. My formal training includes many intervention types and experience with multiple programs and curricula, so I have a large pool from which to draw...then we get creative! My style REALLY aims for those over-arching foundational skills like critical thinking, thought organization, and problem solving. I will also track and provide data to monitor progress and hold myself accountable for effectiveness. Let's start out by saying I am definitely not your average tutor! Fun is vital to motivation, and I live on the stuff! I have been teaching for over fifteen years in a variety of environments, working in inclusive environments with children aged ... read more

I am a 2014 graduate of Marymount University where I received a Masters in Special Education. I have teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In middle school, I focused on teaching 7th grade Math, but am comfortable in Language Arts as well. Along with teaching, I have been a nanny for many years and therefore have experience with kids beyond the classroom. I believe each person is unique and different. Therefore, my teaching style is individualized depending on the student and their needs. I do however believe in a hands-on, interactive approaches in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning.

My way of teaching is learning each individual child's way of learning. Then it is important to teach that child according to the way he/ she will learn to succeed. I enjoy children and they enjoy working with me. I find humor and put children at ease. I listen to what they have to say to me. I expect children to be able to attain very high goals. I firmly know each child can success and I will do research to find out the approach to each child's learning the subject. I love being a teacher. I have worked with many different children. I have taught children who speak other languages. I have taught children and have been a success. I have worked with low income children for many years. It was important to research and attend to each child as an individual and attain his/ her educational goals. I volunteer two nights a week teaching children. It is a great joy to work with the ch

Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another. I am patient and kind with students while still being firm when teaching students. I use positive reinforcement to achieve goals. I like to form a good relationship with the students because students do their best work when they are trying to please others. When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate requir

While in college, I spent my time home from school substitute teaching through Frederick County Public Schools. After graduation from American University, I continued to substitute and in the fall of 2005 I took a part-time position at a middle school, teaching Theatre Arts and Music Performance Lab. While teaching, I began my teaching certification through the Maryland State Department of Education, where I completed a course called Inclusion: Making it Happen. I also taught dance at Dance Unlimited and Elite Feet Dance studios in addition to working at numerous children's theatre camps throughout Maryland and West Virginia. I feel that I do my best work with Elementary age children. I like to make education fun and easily accessible. I love using games and hands on activities to teach lessons. My 5th grade teacher made such an impact on me that I have kept her on as a huge part of my l

Guided by experiences in my life and lessons I’ve learned through teaching, I’ve come to understand that all children learn differently. My goal is to first determine where the students need help, based on their learning style, and then focus my knowledge and experience to help them using proven teaching techniques and my own teaching methods. My philosophy of education is that I believe that teachers should provide an opportunity to facilitate the academic, social, and individual growth of students. We should incorporate cooperative learning, which includes literacy, math and science manipulatives and writing to help children to work cooperatively and explore their various talents. Teaching is my passion and I believe that by teaching I can instill firm educational values in children and help develop within them a desire to learn and grow, which will lead to academic pride and success

I have been working for the past two years at a school in Washington, DC. There I was a full-time substitute for grades K-8 and was the assistant director to the after-school program. After I spent five years in the finacial planning field, I realized my passion for working with youth through coaching basketball. Two years ago I changed careers and haven't looked back. Now more than ever, kids need positive role models in their lives and I feel blessed to be a part of that. I enjoy working with a wide variety of kids. Every child has the ability to be sucessful if they are reached in the right way, and that is my goal in teaching. Patience plays a large role in finding the correct learning method for each child and that is where I shine. Some of my best overall experinces in teahing have come from the more difficult students who have stuggled in school or have been turned off by school a
