Special Education is one of my top subjects! Since my fourteen-year-old son was diagnosed with Autism, at the age of eighteen months, I have provided therapy in our home and in camp settings under the supervision of Ph.D. and masters level therapist. I have provided the following therapies: Floortime, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Relationship Development Intervention. To meet my son's individual needs I have created therapies combining those listed above.

Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I had the privilege of being employed as a special education teacher. I retired in June after 32 years. My experience with students involved instruction in all areas of development, including functional academics, communication, social, community, employment, and daily living skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student I was most drawn to the ideas of Piaget and Gardner. Their teaching philosophies made the most sense to me when it came to teaching. Piaget focused on the idea of play as learning. This may sound strange to some, but a child is always learning, no matter they are doing, due to the fact that so many experiences are totally new to them. When children stacks blocks they are exploring many scientific concepts such as balance, gravity, cause and effect and many others. When children scribble with crayons they are exploring many concepts of art and aesthetics. Gardner describes the idea of multiple intelligences. Everyone is good at some aspects of learning and less so in others. Children learn in many different ways.
