Special Education is one of my top subjects! Since my fourteen-year-old son was diagnosed with Autism, at the age of eighteen months, I have provided therapy in our home and in camp settings under the supervision of Ph.D. and masters level therapist. I have provided the following therapies: Floortime, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Relationship Development Intervention. To meet my son's individual needs I have created therapies combining those listed above.

Reading Comprehension, Floortime, Applied Behavior Analysis, Relationship Development Intervention are my areas of experience. Since my fourteen-year-old son was diagnosed with Autism, at the age of eighteen months, I have provided therapy in our home and in camp settings under the supervision of Ph.D. and masters level therapist. To meet my son's individual needs I have created therapies combining those listed above. My son is high functioning. He’s now fully included in his middle school where he’s an all “A” student. More importantly he enjoys a close group of friends. I enjoy tutoring children in reading. Under the direction of several speech language pathologists I have taught my son reading comprehension skills. I also enjoyed managing and participating in his elementary school’s volunteer reading program.
Motivation is the key to learning. I first look for what mot ... read more

I have my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from a private, Catholic university. My time there taught me to be not only determined in what I do, but also ethical. During my college years, I spent a year tutoring students in English and Psychology courses. I am open to working with any level of student in English/Reading/Grammar/Literature and with high school and college level Psychology students.
I believe that all children learn differently and that all children should be given a chance to learn in ways that suit them most. I believe in helping students achieve their personal best. I am dedicated to assisting students in achieving their academic goals and I try my hardest to be a good role model to every student I encounter.

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon completion of my undergraduate degree, I had the privilege of being employed as a special education teacher. In 2005, I resigned my teaching position to open my own licensed home daycare facility. During this time, I was the sole operator and administrator of Haneline Family Daycare. I am currently completing my master’s degree at Eastern Michigan University to obtain a K-12 endorsement as a reading specialist. My training in the areas of literacy assessment and intervention design will allow me to effectively assist struggling readers to overcoming their various reading difficulties.
I believe that the process of reading has identifiable components. All of these areas come together to work as one complex mechanism, and in order for an individual to be a successful reader they must be successful in all of these areas. An individual must have the skills and compensatory ... read more

As a teacher for the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, I had the privilege of working with students, age 3 to 21, who had significant cognitive impairments, and occasionally other disabilities such as autism and physically impairments. I retired in June after 32 years. My experience with students involved instruction in all areas of development, including functional academics, communication, social, community, employment, and daily living skills.
I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual. Educators must fit the program to the child, not fit the child to the program. Whether or not a student has a disability, it seems to me that the goals are basically the same: to help our youth to dev ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student I was most drawn to the ideas of Piaget and Gardner. Their teaching philosophies made the most sense to me when it came to teaching. Piaget focused on the idea of play as learning. This may sound strange to some, but a child is always learning, no matter they are doing, due to the fact that so many experiences are totally new to them. When children stacks blocks they are exploring many scientific concepts such as balance, gravity, cause and effect and many others. When children scribble with crayons they are exploring many concepts of art and aesthetics. Gardner describes the idea of multiple intelligences. Everyone is good at some aspects of learning and less so in others. Children learn in many different ways.
I have a degree and a K-3rd teaching certificate with a reading endorsement in early childhood education from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. I also have ... read more

My teaching style has defiantly evolved over the years working with a wide variety of students and learning styles. I have learned that each student is unique, and should not be underestimated simply because of a diagnosis or so called disability. I do my best to approach each student s learning style with an open mind and a wide range of possible strategies and tools. My goal as an educator is to ensure that a student reaches her or his potential and beyond. I strive to never underestimate a student or to stagger their intellectual growth by underestimating their potential.
In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two ye ... read more

I love working with all children, and all age groups. I am here to help find a unique way to present the material to your child to help them understand it in language that they can understand. I am patient, easy going and considerate. My overall goal is to help young students realize their potential, and instill a love of learning.
I believe strongly in providing children an opportunity to learn material in a way that will resonate with them personally.
