I am a secondary math teacher. I use several different teaching methods in my classroom to ensure I reach as many students as possible. I also worked at Sylvan Learning Center until it closed. I tutored for all levels of math. I helped students at the elementary level with the learning program. I also did individualize tutoring for high school students who came in for homework help. I also helped with some college level courses including college algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. I did the ACT prep program as well as tutored for several other college entry exams. When most high school seniors were registering for classes, they had an easy agenda planned. My intentions were entirely different. I decided to challenge myself the final year and study more science coursework than was needed for me to sufficiently graduate. In addition, I was the kind of friend that was reliable in understanding course concepts, so most of my friends and some other peers were coming to me for help. When I was in school, I could always understand or figure out what the teacher was trying to get across. Some students, however, didn’t always understand what was being explained. I was the kid who would rephrase the teacher’s remarks and explain it again in a way that the other students could understand. Not all students understand things in the same way. I try to find a way to explain things so the material is more interesting and less frustrating than it is when the teacher explains it. I have always enjoyed working with children of all ages. I taught dance for my high school years to younger children and I believe that has taught me a lot about teaching styles. I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate or in the same way. Students all have different styles of learning just as teachers have their different styles of teaching.
