I chose this major because I am fascinated by children, and how they all develop at their own individual rate. I am patient and kind, but at the same time, I like push a child to reach the potential that they usually do not ever realize they have. Children have different methods of learning and unfortunately, classroom settings do not meet all the students' needs. Some are more hands on, while some are just listeners. When most high school seniors were registering for classes, they had an easy agenda planned. My intentions were entirely different. I decided to challenge myself the final year and study more science coursework than was needed for me to sufficiently graduate. In addition, I was the kind of friend that was reliable in understanding course concepts, so most of my friends and some other peers were coming to me for help. I went to college at Iowa State University and finished at the University of South Dakota with a major in communication disorders and a minor in psychology. I have a strong training background. I have held jobs in which I was a manager, which required me to train staff. I also taught computer classes (Microsoft, Internet, Basic PC) at Western Iowa Tech for a few years. I have always enjoyed working with children of all ages. I taught dance for my high school years to younger children and I believe that has taught me a lot about teaching styles. I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate or in the same way. Students all have different styles of learning just as teachers have their different styles of teaching.
