As an engineering graduate from BYU, I have extensive training in physics and math, as well as a solid foundation in how to apply these studies to real life situations. Problem solving is a strong suit, and I feel the principles gained from engineering studies apply to a host of fields where the primary objective is solving problems. As a volunteer in Japan for 2 years and also as an engineer with Toyota, I have developed comfortable conversational Japanese in both personal and scientific settings. I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I am currently seeking tutoring work as I complete the last year of my online "masters in elementary education" program. There are no bad students, there are bad teachers. Once I had an argument with my University teacher who wanted us to prepare an exercise but did nothing to get our interest in it. I argued because his words were: “It is my job to get your interest to learn” But in that case he didn’t follow his principle at all. I won an argument and he cancelled the task. Other thing I would never bring to my students is the attitude of being Superior. It doesn’t help if you want to make a contact with your student. Everybody learns in their own ways so a Teacher supposes to find a right way to present information and get the interest.

My teaching style is demonstrative, multi-modal and I focus on attending to the underlying emotional issues. Statistics and Computing need to be taught in a slow, careful manner that builds upon each concept, while attending to the fear that students have around "math and science." As a team lead I have mentored and taught younger team members for over 10 years in computer programming, planning, statistical analysis, budgeting, and mathematical computations. I have also taught them how to debug problems, test solutions, and how to successfully complete their tasks. I have over 20 years experience in a variety of fields such as Defense Industry (Department of Navy), Space Systems (Atlas V lauch vehicle), and commercial (Lockheed-Martin).
My teaching/mentoring/tutoring style is tailored to the student. I do not believe their is a generic teaching style that will help all students.
