A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I am currently seeking tutoring work as I complete the last year of my online "masters in elementary education" program. I have a bachelors in Psychology, and twenty years of working experience, 5 in supervisory positions. I can teach elementary and high school level work. In the past I have taught primarily science, media and reading/writing. I am current on modern tutoring methods and practices.
I believe that once a student can enjoy the process of learning they can begin to internalize the good study habits required for academic success. After a childhood filled with the joys of reading I graduated from college with a BA in English. While I have continued to enjoy reading and writing, my interest turned to biology, specifically aquaculture where my area of expertise is shrimp breeding and farming. Through my work in shrimp culture I have traveled to Vietnam, Indonesia and India to teach shrimp and algae rearing to technicians in hatcheries.Now, while occasionally traveling as a consultant to shrimp hatcheries, I have returned to school to study substance abuse counseling. This was on a volunteer basis and so I don't think I listed it on my resume. I then substituted in the public schools for elementary and secondary schools.
