My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : To work in the field of marine biology was my goal when in college. I traveled to Paris and enrolled at the Sorbonne University in order to prepare myself and had the intention of applying to work with Yves Jacques Cousteau. However, my studies were curtailed due to the Sorbonne's staff and students going on strike for over 4 months. I have qualified twice in SCUBA.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna, Austria for a period of 2 years and have offered ESOL instruction as a volunteer teacher at the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and with the Hernando County branches of H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P. I have given prvate English language lessons to individuals from Nepal, Brazil and Puerto Rico. From December 2011 through April 2012 I was employed by "A Quantum Leap" as aa tutor under the SES program. While in the military, I volunteered to instruct Korean Air Force officers in correct ... read more

Teaching is what I do. I have found that I have a skill for transferring information to children without them at times even realizing it is happening. I am not a strict disciplinarian but never allowed my classroom to get out of hand even when it was filled with 40+ students. I respect children and their differences. From that attitude I have found that I generally was also respected by most of my students. Teaching is fun. There is nothing better than when a child ‘gets it’ You can see the light go on and you know they have learned something. This requires patience and that is something I believe I have in abundance. .
I honestly did not start out to be a teacher. Teaching was a profession that my family was involved in but I never saw it as something I would be good at. I became a teacher at first out of economic necessity and then realized I was actually very good ... read more

Everyone has always told me that I was born to be a teacher, that I have an innate gift to decipher what a student needs and to promote success and accomplish goals. I am patient, considerate and flexible. Learning occurs through teachable moments every day, and it is how we respond to these moments that determines our future. Student needs and learning styles vary and educational structure should be adapted to the individual needs of the student. I enjoy all of my students and learn something new from every one. After all, it only takes one idea, one lesson to change a life.
It seems I have always been involved in education, whether through planning/implementing lesson plans, creating assessments or one-on-one work with a student. I am a graduate of North Georgia with a passion for language and literature. I have worked on projects that have been, or will soon be, published. I am a talented writer, and love helping others with their writing endeavors. I am able to read, understand, and transcribe French, however, I am not a very good "speaker". I have worked with different educational levels, from elementary to college, in assistance of writing assignments, as well as math, science, social sciences, and history. I have even assisted with graduate research papers, from an Oxford professor, and my students received top scores.
I want to first stress that I am only an assistant on their learning journey, not the protagonist. I will not do your child's work for them, but I will make sure that they complete their assignment, and we, as a team, complete it to the best extent possible. I know that a lot of childr ... read more

I believe with the right supports all children can learn. I have tutored students with special needs. I have used the technique of visualization to gain success in teaching children. By breaking down each problem in steps and having the student visualize the problem, they can get a grasp on it that much quicker. I also believe that if you can make the subject matter enjoyable for each child, they will start to have fun while learning, which also quickens the learning curve. I am a patient, outgoing individual who loves working with children and making an impact in their lives.
I have graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology, giving me knowledge of many science subject areas as well as math. This, along with excelling in all general education classes throughout college has given me a well rounded understanding in reading and writing. Over the last year, I have tutored children, ages five to thirteen, in math, science, and english.

More About This Tutor...

I discovered my love of teaching when I started volunteering as a reading tutor and youth group leader. I am most effective when I work with students in a one-on-one or small group setting, which allows me to focus on individual students’ strengths and challenges. I customize my approach with each student’s particular learning style in mind. My goal is that students understand and learn to think critically and independently, not simply memorize. When I see a child’s eyes light up with understanding and smile at accomplishment, I know I have succeeded in making a difference.
While completing my B.A. in Management at Eckerd, I learned how to write effectively and enhanced my understanding of grammar, mathematics, history, social studies and economics. As a volunteer tutor at a public school and at my church, I began to develop my teaching skills. These rewarding experiences mot ... read more

Inspring and mentoring students is a very fufilling career for me. Teaching has always been one of life's goals every since my high school Biology teacher made a major impact in my life. After graduating from Jackson State University in 2006, I moved to Ocala, Florida to start my teaching career. Teaching high school students can sometimes be a very challening position but I would not change my teaching career for anything in the world.
I currently teach Biology, which can be a diffucult subject for students to learn. I try to tie real world applications into every Biology topic possible. Students always tend to comprehend and understand Biology material when teachers can relate the applications to real life.
