My comments on tutoring Marine Biology : To work in the field of marine biology was my goal when in college. I traveled to Paris and enrolled at the Sorbonne University in order to prepare myself and had the intention of applying to work with Yves Jacques Cousteau. However, my studies were curtailed due to the Sorbonne's staff and students going on strike for over 4 months. I have qualified twice in SCUBA.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna, Austria for a period of 2 years and have offered ESOL instruction as a volunteer teacher at the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and with the Hernando County branches of H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P. I have given prvate English language lessons to individuals from Nepal, Brazil and Puerto Rico. From December 2011 through April 2012 I was employed by "A Quantum Leap" as aa tutor under the SES program. While in the military, I volunteered to instruct Korean Air Force officers in correct ... read more

I believe with the right supports all children can learn. I have tutored students with special needs. My goal is to help the child build on their strengths and believe they can improve on their weaknesses. My teaching style is to set objectives that challenge students and support them by building on what they already know. I am extremely patient and professional and well liked by my students.
With a degree in Special Education and a Masters in Education I have learned about how children learn best. I have a Florida Teacher's License for teaching ESE (Exceptional Students Education), Spanish, Elementary Education, and other subjects. I taught in the Ocala public school system. I have terrific math skills and have taught all core courses to ESE students. I have helped older students prepare for their GED exam as well. Currently I teach Spanish online.

I honestly did not start out to be a teacher. Teaching was a profession that my family was involved in but I never saw it as something I would be good at. I became a teacher at first out of economic necessity and then realized I was actually very good at it. I was hired the day before classes started and stayed at the school for 24 years. I taught science, mathematics and social studies. For 5 years I was involved with an innovative ‘Student at Risk’ program and was even a media specialist for one year. This past year I has hired by the Census Bureau to test applicants for enumerator jobs.
Teaching is what I do. I have found that I have a skill for transferring information to children without them at times even realizing it is happening. I am not a strict disciplinarian but never allowed my classroom to get out of hand even when it was filled with 40+ students. I ... read more

It seems I have always been involved in education, whether through planning/implementing lesson plans, creating assessments or one-on-one work with a student. I have experience in all areas of education with all ranges of students and have learned from each one of them. All lesson plans and standards are adaptable no matter the need. I have created unique units (such as "Language of the Week") and worked with birth through age 22.
Everyone has always told me that I was born to be a teacher, that I have an innate gift to decipher what a student needs and to promote success and accomplish goals. I am patient, considerate and flexible. Learning occurs through teachable moments every day, and it is how we respond to these moments that determines our future. Student needs and learning styles vary and educational structure should be adapted to the individual needs of the student. I ... read more

I want to first stress that I am only an assistant on their learning journey, not the protagonist. I will not do your child's work for them, but I will make sure that they complete their assignment, and we, as a team, complete it to the best extent possible. I know that a lot of children and adults fail as students because teachers often choose their prized pupils and disregard the rest. I think this is grossly unjust, and believe everyone has the potential for greatness.

I believe that each child's talents and abilities need to be nurtured through creative and constructive curriculum and delivery, including acknowledging the importance of integrating playtime with instruction. I have worked in many educational environments - public and private schools; juvenile detention facilities and home school cooperatives - each place offering it's own rules and protocol for developing and nurturing a child. One approach that I used in ALL these facilities yielded the best results for both child and educator (me!) and that was simply to follow this rule: provide trust and mutual respect, and give enough room for students to learn to make real, responsible choices in pursuing their true interests.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am just as comfortable tutoring students in math and science as in reading and writing. As a secondary school student, I received a number of top science honors, such as first place honors in several state science fairs and being named a semi-finalist in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search. Since high school, my interests have leaned more to the arts and writing. I graduated with a BA with distinction in Art History from Yale University and a PhD in the same subject from the University of Manchester, UK. Overall, I have ten years of experience helping students sharpen their skills in reading and writing and tutoring students in subjects as diverse as drama, art history, general/advanced math and science, and English.

A Little Bit About Me...

Inspring and mentoring students is a very fufilling career for me. Teaching has always been one of life's goals every since my high school Biology teacher made a major impact in my life. After graduating from Jackson State University in 2006, I moved to Ocala, Florida to start my teaching career. Teaching high school students can sometimes be a very challening position but I would not change my teaching career for anything in the world.
I currently teach Biology, which can be a diffucult subject for students to learn. I try to tie real world applications into every Biology topic possible. Students always tend to comprehend and understand Biology material when teachers can relate the applications to real life.

As a teacher and tutor, my goal is to give children the one-on-one attention they need, while increasing their level of understanding. I believe that it is important to incorporate creativity and excitement into learning. Many children have the ability to learn difficult subjects, but lack focus. It is important to find methods that work for each student as an individual. I have a great deal of patience and compassion which puts the students at ease while they are taking on new and difficult tasks.

I discovered my love of teaching when I started volunteering as a reading tutor and youth group leader. I am most effective when I work with students in a one-on-one or small group setting, which allows me to focus on individual students’ strengths and challenges. I customize my approach with each student’s particular learning style in mind. My goal is that students understand and learn to think critically and independently, not simply memorize. When I see a child’s eyes light up with understanding and smile at accomplishment, I know I have succeeded in making a difference.
While completing my B.A. in Management at Eckerd, I learned how to write effectively and enhanced my understanding of grammar, mathematics, history, social studies and economics. A Little Bit About Me...

I have used the technique of visualization to gain success in teaching children. By breaking down each problem in steps and having the student visualize the problem, they can get a grasp on it that much quicker. I also believe that if you can make the subject matter enjoyable for each child, they will start to have fun while learning, which also quickens the learning curve. I am a patient, outgoing individual who loves working with children and making an impact in their lives.
I have graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology, giving me knowledge of many science subject areas as well as math. This, along with excelling in all general education classes throughout college has given me a well rounded understanding in reading and writing. Over the last year, I have tutored children, ages five to thirteen, in math, science, and english.

A Little Bit About Me...

While in High school I was in a program called Future Educators of America. I taught Emotional Handicapped Children by choice and I use what I have learned back then to teach today. I have 3 small children myself so I do enjoy teaching them new things and helping them further understand the concept more. Sometimes I use an example something they are familiar with, something that I know will grab their attention, then it does not even feel like learning. With me, the majority of learning is focused around being fun & creative where others are more in tuned to the reality of it as we all know this is how life is so I help them learn life skills as well. However I do utilize the importance of their involvement.
