More About This Tutor...

I have a passion for learning as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I obtained a BA in Mathematics and am currently working on MAT in Mathematics. While in college I was part of a tutoring/mentoring program and helped my peers with math. I also had an opportunity to prepare high school students for the Alabama Grad Exam during a summer session with the Upward Bound Program. I currently help children in my community with any problems they may face in mathematics.
Teaching has been a desire of mine since I taught math at a local high school for two years. I am a firm believer in giving accurate, detailed information and being prepared for any questions that someone may have. I don't expect everyone to learn at the same pace, and I make sure that I provide various methods to solving certain problems. I believe that anything is possible, even learning Math.

I began tutoring students in 1984 while working in the math lab as an undergraduate student at the University of Southern Mississippi. After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics with a general science minor, I had the opportunity to teach college algebra as a graduate teaching assistant. I have been tutoring/teaching mathematics and some sciences ever since. I have experience tutoring students on skills needed for the ACT and for the Alabama High School Graduation Exam.
I truly enjoy teaching math and enjoy watching the 'click' when a student begins to understand the concepts. I believe many students have been erroneously convinced that "they don't get math" or that math is too hard. I believe in not just working through the problems at hand but in trying to help each student gain a better understanding of the thinking process involved in solving problems. ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a recent graduate, I have learned the importance of education. I have earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. Not only do I contain a strong understanding in those subjects but took several classes in other areas to become a well-rounded individual. I dedicated my time most of my time to studies but I also took time out to participate in campus activities, as well as, participate in numerous volunteer programs. I received rewards for my dedication to tutoring and mentoring the youth in the inner city.
I enjoy working, teaching, and mentoring children. I have learned to adjust to the different learning styles of children, which makes it easier for the child to feel more comfortable with learning. In order to work with children there has to be a great amount of patience and concern. I have learned patience through working with children from all ... read more

Few things bring me more personal joy than helping others become better learners and seeing them smile when they overcome their struggles. I never use a one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring, because each and every individual's natural ability and learning environment are unique. Regardless of circumstances, I'm always patient, easy-going, and respectful with students and their families. Whenever possible, I try to incorporate examples that correlate with the interests they already have, to show them how important and practical their studies will be once they finish their schooling. Without telling them answers directly, I lead students down the right path so they can discover for themselves.
I've always been a highly focused and disciplined individual in regards to academics; ever since high school I've taken a serious liking to chemistry and math, not only because of their impor ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children of all ages and abilities. I'm a firm believer in creative learning through fun and interesting activities. I am also a firm believer that everyone learns at different paces and through different means: using visual, auditory, and tactile learning to find what works best. I am patient and understanding and strive to find the best possible ways of learning for each individual. I believe that everyone has great potential for success and I look to find that potential in all of my students' lives.
As a McGill University graduate, I was very driven to excel in my science based courses. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Chemistry which has enabled me to gain a thorough understanding in many areas of math and science. For the past few years I have enjoyed spending my time tutoring youth and young adults in basic science, m ... read more

I have taught different mathematics subjects (Algebra, Geometry-plane, solid, and analytic-, Number Theory, and Statistics, among others) to undergraduate BS Mathematics students. I was also the teacher and coordinator in the practice teaching (Practicum) of our graduating students. I also taught and advised graduate students in mathematics education and sit in the defense panel as a member of the examining committee for master’s and Ph. D. candidates.

I enjoy teaching and the think that every child has the ability to learn anything they want. Through my personal experience, I realize that some people have a harder time learning particular subjects than others. Being someone who has been tutored earlier in grade school, I know what kind of dedication it takes and how great the moment of success can be. I teach using a lot of paper and using many examples. I find it easier to teach students by relating difficult concepts with something they might already be familiar with. I feel most comfortable teaching the subjects of science, math, and grammar.
As a premedical student, my main focus during college was on biology, chemistry, physics, and math. Through extensive lab work, I have also learned how to write scholarly reports. During my undergraduate years, I have taught inorganic and organic chemistry to sophomore and junior undergr ... read more

I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus. After working with me on a consistent basis (2/3 days/week) many of the students have received honors in their math courses, including "Most Improved" and "Highest Average". I am also proud to say that a couple of students have actually decided to pursue careers that require a good understanding of math - i.e. engineering, architecture.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is easy to describe; I consider myself a 'coach' and as such I don't (and wont) give the students the answer to a particular problem, but rather I show them how to (and hold their hand, metaphorically, while they struggle to) find the answers themselves based on first principles, in my experience the only way to get them to really learn. Learning physics is particularly difficult for most students because they have been trained to memorize, not reason things out logically. They usually require a LOT of coaching in order to begin to think, which ultimately is the goal of all physics class.
I completed all course work for a masters of physics at University of Alabama at Birmingham, only lacking the thesis. G.P.A. at the end of the course work was 3.65. Along the way, as I finished the graduate course work (and in order to pay the rent) I did ad-hoc tutoring with ... read more
