I have always loved helping people, especially in the way of education. I believe that everyone learns differently, and therefore strive for diversity in teaching. I have been a teacher for over six years. I have taught and/or tutored subjects ranging from elementary reading and math to high school math and science. I am permanently certified in New York State to teach Biology and general science. In addition, I am pursuing certificates in both physics and math.
I like to combine both direct instruction and hands-on activities when teaching. I believe that allowing students to apply their learning to real-life situations helps them to both find meaning in their learning and attach the learning to a memorable experience. I get really excited about the subjects that I teach and my excitement carries over to my students. My first career was as a Registered Professional Nurse (NYS licensure) for 25 years. During those years, I kept up my interest in various fields of math, such as Abstract Algebra, Differential equations, and topology. I was especially interested in algebraically-capable computer math programs. I,eventually, went back to school for my Mathematics degree as part of a long-standing interest in and commitment to Mathematics. I presently teach students who are "at risk" in the 7th through 12th grades and have done so for the last 10-11 years at OHM-BOCES. I have tutored the NYS Math B course for 5 years as well as the current NYS Algebra I/II courses.
