I developed a heart for young people at an early age, as my parents were missionaries to Native Americans. I truly believe that education has changed my life and promote higher education. While completing my BBA and MA degrees at Wichita State University, I worked for Student Support Services, a TRIO program located on campus. For eight years I tutored low-income and first generation university students serviced by the program. By utilizing innovative tutoring techniques, I achieved a high success rate. In fact, several of my students graduated from university with honors, a goal initially thought to be unachievable. Statistics have revealed that only thirty three percent of students graduate from university, a dismal situation to say the least. I have been a pastoral minister for 25 years, have taught refugees English as a Second Language, have taught community college courses as an adjunct instructor, have taught innumerable courses within the congregations I have served, including an after school tutoring program for young children.
