I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. I am a firm believer in learning the basics in foreign language. You must first build a foundation on which to place additional building blocks of knowledge. I use a commercial grammar text and workbook, which I select according to the needs and age of the specific student. We work through grammar and exercises with cultural lessons included. I include practice in conversation and composition as well. We work on any class-related material and address specific concerns of the student. Although I believe one-on-one teaching to be the most beneficial to the student, I enjoy teaching small groups. The thinking and learning processes were always intriguing to me. I am very inquisitive and cannot stop until I understand how things tick. People have told me all my life what a great teacher I would be. I have also been fortunate to have acquired a vast number of friends who are not native born Americans.
