Experience Summary
My love of mathematics began while I was in elementary school--I looked forward to those classes and took as many as I could from my high school, Wyoming Area. I had, at one point in middle school, helped to tutor some students in one of my classes. While in college at Susquehanna University, I had the priveledge of tutoring pre-calculus to local Selinsgrove High School students. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to share my passion for math with others. I believe anyone can comprehend math if given the right tools--learning math is like building a pyramid, you need the base to get to the top, and that is what I try to do, help these students grasp a solid base understanding of the topic.
While at Susquehanna, I also participated in study groups to help other students in my classes.
Teaching Style
I try to tailor my style to the student. Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. Some are more visual, others are more auditory so I tried to not only explain but also show by using whatever tools necessary/applicable (graphs, pictures, charts, etc.)
