I firmly believe ALL children can learn, but not everyone learns in the same way. I do my best to make a positive difference in their lives. I'm very patient and always listen to my students. I give my students tips to help them learn something and get them to repeat information back to me as we work so I know they understand. I give immediate feedback while working with my students and, when working one-on-one or in small groups, I will sit down and work side-by-side with them. My teaching style varies depending on the needs of each student. Because students learn in different ways, I feel it is important to start with a basic teaching method and evolve from there for each individual child and his or her level of learning. I feel that motivation goes a long way and that students should feel rewarded for any level of progress they accomplish. My experience includes two years of full time teaching at the PreK level. I also have experience working with grade level students through practicums, student teaching, and substitute teaching. I have assisted teachers with middle school students during a summer technical program as well. I currently hold a M.S. in Education specializing at the Elementary grade levels. I have had years of experience even before college with Fine Arts. I had a tutor/ lessons myself in art from age 9-15. I have earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Virginia Tech in 5 years after transfer twice before. I was very successful at Virginia Tech my professors were always impressed with my drive to succeed. I have recently completed my Senior Art Show and had amazing feed back from all professors and professionals that attended. I also intend on applying to graduate school in the next year for my MFA. My teaching style is so passionate, I love opening doors to where students actually grasps the idea of learning and the effectiveness of it. I have been a volunteer for various literacy programs for the past several years, focusing primarily on phonics rather than sight reading. I have worked in two group homes for dually diagnosed adults, meaning both physically and mentally challenged. I went to school online at Ashford University, for 2 years in an accelerated Bachelor's Degree program with a focus on education. With an inborn gift of language art skills and being a tutor for about the past 20 years, I have learned how to relate easily to any age group or functioning level. I am a creative teacher, meaning that I assess the individual and do not have an agenda that I adhere to. Normally, I am able to advance a child a grade level in reading with three months of tutoring and reinforcing homework, during the summer. I love working with children of all ages. I can say I am patient enough to deal with elementary students being that I've done so before. I love to have fun with learning and can bring the fun of learning to the classroom. I want the students to want to learn and that is what I am going to bring to the table. Children's church is where a year of my experience comes from. I would guide a group of children during the service and would spend individual time with those who wanted to brush up on their reading and writing.
