A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very hands on. I understand that students learn in a variety of ways. Some are hands on, and need to actually get their hands on the project to understand. Some learn by seeing it. They have to see it and then maybe write it and learn by visualizing. Some learn by listening. They can listen to a lecture and hang on to every word. I understand that all children are different, and therefore lessons have to be taylored to fit each child's learning needs. I love children and enjoy teaching. When I was teaching in a public school, I was very well liked by both children and parents. I was there for every child; not just the good ones. My goal was to take the child that other teachers talked negatively about in the lunchroom and show them that I had no problems with that same child. Teachers should not stereotype. My passion in life is to work with children. I love helping children learn and to see the "light bulb" go off in their head. I believe that all children can learn, but they learn in many different ways. My motto for teaching is "Learning to discover, and discovering to learn." I can sit and lecture on a subject for hours, but only when the student connects with the material will learning take place. I also believe in making learning relevant and interesting to the student. I am a graduate of West Virginia State University, with a BA in psychology. I graduated magna kum laude. I tutored last when I was in High School, but worked with children for two years at Highland Hospital. I am an avid reader and would love to teach others to enjoy it.
I enjoy working with children because they have such a capacity to learn and I love seeing the joy when they learn somthing new. I believe in taking your time and being thorough. I have taught 1st-4th grades, and tutored in elementary. I also minored in piano. I have given private piano lessons and done one-on-one tutoring with children and adults.
