I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. I received my BS in Accounting 1988. While getting my degree I was involved in the on campus tutoring program. I have tutored students in, accounting mathematics, philosophy, marketing, business law, finance, and religion. Since graduating from college I have had several training opportunities in various jobs. These jobs have given me a wide range of experience in training (tutoring) a wide range of people with various levels of education, and their ability to grasp the information required for the job. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I enjoy seeing children learn new things. I know that every child learns differently. It is important to get to know the children that you are teaching and figure out what teaching technique fits there needs. I feel like I do an excellent job of portraying what I am trying to teach.
I have always loved children. Children are precious and all have very unique learning techniques. When I was a senior at Maryville High School, I taught Spanish to first graders. My partner and I were in charge of making lesson plans and fulfilling these plans for each class. I really enjoyed seeing the children get excited about learning.
