A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching 22 years ago at a middle school and later taught high school when I relocated to the beach. I also tutored at a local community college. The most rewarding aspect of teaching and tutoring is when the lightbulb goes off at the crucial point of understanding in the student's mind. I have a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management and School Leadership. Furthermore, I have 67 additional education credits pertaining to teaching, tutoring, communication and human resources. I am a friendly and easy to talk to person. I strive to make my tutoring and mentoring sessions into conversations rather than a one-way lecture. When tutoring or mentoring, I usually let the student lead the session so that I can assess where his or her strengths and weaknesses lie. I like to let them take the initiative because it actively engages them in the learning process versus passively listening to me.
