My comments on tutoring Portuguese : Fluent speaker, advanced experince in reading and writing

I love to help the student not only understand concepts, but also to love them. To see just how this language was formed, what it means, and how we can use them. I also want them to understand culture, through pen pals, and movies and songs. Brazil and Portugal have some of the most amazing people, places, and histories, and the world is missing out.
I am a full time student at BYU majoring in Civil Engineering and minoring in Portuguese. I have served a two year full time mission in Brazil, where I was required to interact 24 7 with the amazing Brazilian people. I learned their languange along side their rich and amazing culture. I recently completed my Master's degree in Portuguese at Brigham Young University. As part of my Master's program, I taught beginning and intermediate Portuguese for five semesters to classes both small and large. My studies included not only language and linguistics but also culture and history of both Portugal and Brazil. I have experience in teaching reading comprehension and writing as well as speaking, and am familiar with ACTFL guidelines for oral proficiency. I also have experience specifically in teaching Portuguese to speakers of other language, and I also speak Spanish and some French. I'm 21 and have been speaking Portuguese (Brazilian) for my entire life because my family is from Brazil. I speak the dialect from Rio which is the dialect taught in schools there. I feel this is really helpful because both my English and Portuguese are really good and that helps when trying to explain certain aspects of the Portuguese language to native English speakers who are trying to learn.
Through skype so that the student can practice writing and speaking. I do this so that the students can feel more relaxed and so that no travel is required for lessons.

While pursuing my own studies in college, I realized that I not only love learning but that I love to increase learning in others as well. Because of this, I spent many hours throughout college volunteering to tutor calculus and chemistry students.
