My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I've been a web developer for over 20 years. I'm a Sr. Engineer and I'm completely self-taught. I teach object-oriented design, functional design and have taught 100's how to code.

There is a saying, "between the teacher and the taught becomes the teaching". The institutions of higher education are changing rapidly, and I am equally excited about the opportunity to learn from my students and the fresh new perspective they bring. I'm a very social and easy to talk to. I'm interested in genuine learning and real human relation. Using the topic of software as platform, there's plenty to explore together!
I've been a web developer for over 20 years. I've seen the entire industry evolve in real-time with my own career path. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been very successful throughout school. I'm a Presidential Scholar, Toyota Scholar, Gordon B. Hinckley Scholar, and a Chicago Tribune Scholar. I've taken a wide variety of courses at the college level and have been on the Dean's List every semester. I'm very qualified to tutor most subjects up to the college level, as well as some college level subjects. My BA is in philosophy, but I've taken one or more semesters of music, chemistry, physics, biology, computer science, history, linguistics, Russian, Chinese, economics, political science, Spanish, and anthropology. I got my BS, MS and Ph.D degrees in Physics. I had been a professor at a university in China for five years, a teaching assistant/tutor at Brigham Young University for five years and an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University for one semester. I can teach/tutor fundamental physics and math courses.
First of all, I like teaching physics and math. Many students complained that physics was too hard for them to learn. I think the main problem is that they learned it too fast and couldn’t understand the basic concepts. They need some more time and patience to figure out the basic mechanisms and develop the necessary skills and abilities to solve the concrete problems. I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some at home and enjoy teaching them.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. Basic arithmetic skills make story problems easier. Types of story problems need to be practiced, not just thrown in at the end of a chapter without much information on how to do it.
