Throughout my existence I have found myself in the role of teacher. Whether it be academic or physical, I have been blessed with keen abilities, as well as an ease in communicating ideas. This, I believe, stems from a need to comprehend not just the action of something, but the reason for that action as well. By this, often I am able to see what hinders learning in someone, and then help them to eradicate that trait. I am lucid, passionate, and hold great patience for those that truly wish to learn. Learning has always been my goal. The hope of understanding is the light which illuminates this dark abyss of bureaucracy, strange smells and seeming disorder. I have read ceaselessly, watched ravenously, pondered to no end; a mind which never sleeps but continues seeking. I have been working with youth for over ten years. As a private music instructor and substitute teacher I have had the opportunity to work with students K-12 with a wide array of abilities. During the school year of 2009-2010 I was a para-professional in a Kindergarten PDD class (pervasive development disorder/autism) where I helped administer IEP directed lessons for 8 children on the spectrum. I have developed lesson plans for both my private students and the music production programs I've directed for the past 4 years. I have always found myself adept at teaching. I have a great deal of patience and a genuine fondness for instruction. As a journalism major from UF, I gained extensive writing, research and grammatical skills. I am a proficient typist and have an intimate knowledge of computers and various programs. I am grounded in functional math: an essential skill in reporting on the economy and science. I went up to pre-calculus in high school and took both Algebra and Logic in college. Current events and history were both fundamental in my schooling. I began my higher education at Tallahassee Community College in 1997. After receiving my AA Degree I transferred to F.S.U where I majored in Criminology with a minor in Spanish and graduated in 2003. Since that time, I've worked as a legal assistant/paralegal with different law firms in town. Recently, I decided to return to school and received my certificate in Massage Therapy. The thing I love most about teaching is opening up someones eyes to something new and seeing the "wow" look on their faces. Sometimes certain subject matter is not always easy for a person to learn. I've always appreciated the teacher that went out of their way with a great amount of patience to make sure I understood. I am the author of five historical novels and a number of articles, poems and short stories. I occasionally do short “residences” teaching Language Arts and Drama to special needs students in k-12 schools for VSA Arts of Florida. My graduate studies emphasized American and Tudor/Stuart History. My doctorate included a Criminal Justice minor. I regularly teach writing and grant writing seminars to adults, usually through libraries on weekends or in the evening. I believe everyone will respond well to individualized instruction when the tutor studies the student's learning style and offers the information in the form best suited to each learner. I am patient and encouraging with students. I work hard to find ways to present a subject so that each learner will find it interesting.
