I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process. We set the goal-a reasonable one yet with high expectations and together we achieve it. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. Visual explanation and simple repetition are the most successful tools to help a child learn. I am patient and calm with students but not afraid of discipline. Before college I was a summer camp counselor for three years and part-time babysitter; jobs that taught me how to work with children. I hope to improve a child's life through improving education. In the past year I have graduated with a double major and passed the Society of Actuaries' Probability exam. Teaching to me is a vocation and not just a job. I enjoy helping children achieve their peek potential in the subject matter at hand. My teaching experience is mostly in private school settings and I taught public school for a year. I am currently waiting to be certified in Spanish in Virginia and will be taking the courses necessary to become a certified teacher in the near future.
