I hold a BS in Biology from the University at Albany. I also have a profound love for mathematics and have tutored numerous students in calculus I and II while in college. Going along with my love for mathematics I enjoy the study of physics and tutored two students in both physics I and II while in college. I have always wanted students to really know the material being covered. This has meant keeping their interest through jovial yet concentrated lesson planning. Much too often Educators show students how to answer questions rather than helping the student learn how to handle new scenarios. A Little Bit About Me...

While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. I also taught 8th grade physical science in Prince George Virgina.
In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.

Through teaching at UNH and at Hartwick, I have developed a cogent teaching strategy. First, incorporation of everyday examples is critical for students. When students are shown how concepts discussed in class can be applied to everyday situations, they become more curious and gain better understanding of the material. Second, another of my teaching strategies is to emphasize comprehension of concepts instead of memorization. I caution students against memorizing equations for every individual condition or system. A third goal is to foster an atmosphere of approachability so that students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help both inside and outside of class.
