My teaching style is hands on. I give hints and partial answers in an effort to encourage students to think through problems and attempt to solve them. If necessary, I separate an idea into simpler terms, and help students learn each term before continuing. I give examples which illustrate a point or demonstrate a procedure. At times, my students write short essays, which I critique for sentence structure, word choice, tense matching, and organization. When a student is reading aloud, I follow along, interjecting if necessary with the correct pronunciation or the proper syllable emphasis.

I feel it is important to allow the student to go at his or her “own pace” and not create a frustrating environment where they may feel too pressured. I use a teaching paradigm that stresses the importance of student's needs and learning styles. Every student brings unique skills and perspectives to the classroom and tutor session, and because of this I have found that my teaching strategy changes per student and per teaching situation. For some students, being taught using the socratic method works well, while others like to take notes, absorb the material, then ask questions later during office hours.
