Worked as a Teacher's assistant with Learning disabled student's in a classroom setting. Tutored students in reading who were learning disabled. My goal was to teach my student's to read well enough to fill in job applications. Those on a third grade reading level, reached a fifth grade reading level or better. When I tutored them. Three years drama, I have done community theater.
I like to work with students individually, but sometimes a group is fine. I have the student read the assigned reading, Ask student to sound out words they are having trouble with. If they cannot read selection and it is short I will have them read it again. Longer selections are broken into parts. Drama is more flexible, tapping into emotions, and developing character styles

My comments on tutoring Journalism : I know AP Style and was on the school paper for four years. My senior year of college I was Editor in Chief.

I tutor not for facts, but for concepts and how everything fits into the "big picture."

Balance is the Key to Life

My teaching 'style' is a bit unique, in my opinion. By that, I mean that every child/student 'learns' differently, so I must 'adapt' my style 'on the fly' after determining what is the most effective approach/style/method for that individual student. In addition, the subject that I am teaching also affects my style and some 'tools' that I learned as a youngster and a teacher are also implemented frequently.
I was trained to be a teacher at CSU-Fresno, where I graduated in May, 1999. I substituted for 3 consecutive years in Fresno, Clovis, and Madera Unified School districts at grade levels 3-12. I received my Master's Degree in Sports Administration from the American Public University system in May, 2011, and graduated with Honors and a 4.0 GPA. I am currently trying to obtain my credential and hope to be an Athletic Director one day.

I chose to teach the class for students who did not pass the entrance exam for Fresno State because I enjoyed working with the diverse, and primarily ESL, students who populated these classes. I am a very down to earth person especially when it comes to kids. I always try to lighten up the mood and make learning things interesting and fun. I don't like to dismiss when I see a child having trouble in something. Every person has a different way of learning, I try to cater to each of their needs.
I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. We used a lesson plan and several activities to help children in achieving their reading level goals. My experience with teaching began in 2004 as a volunteer for William Saroyan Elementary School in Fresno, CA. I went on to graduate from CSUFresno with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology; Science is my passion and I believe our young students are in dire need of mentors who are dedicated to show them the world.
