My teaching experience has been centered around a field of a court. Since the age of thirteen I have been helping a wide age group of kids learn to play soccer and basketball. When I was in high school I helped to volunteer at camps often running my own drills and games. Continuing into my college career I continued to teach soccer. At Augsburg College we have a camp each year for the kids from the Cedar-Riverside community. It is put on by the men's and women's Augsburg players. Though this is our biggest camp of the year, we have many more such as our President's day camp or our Memorial day camp. At each camp we devote our time to teaching kids how to head the ball, kick properly, strike, and teach them new moves while helping to perfect their old moves.

I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. I'm in my senior year of High School, I have worked with my siblings on their school all of my life. I've helped my little brother who has ADHD with his homework, I've worked with him through book projects, spelling tests, history homework, pretty much anything and everything. A Little Bit About Me...

After beginning my tutoring experience as a volunteer with Metro North Adult Basic Education in 2003, I have continued to tutor students at various grade levels in many different subjects. I find it to be a tremendously rewarding experience. In addition to volunteering with Metro North to assist adults in preparing for their GED exams, I have worked as a paid tutor for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, Hennepin County Library and Club Z In-Home Tutoring. My position with Lindamood-Bell involved instructing students ages 5-16, primarily in the areas of reading and speech development. With Hennepin County Library, I was part of the library's first Teens, Tech, Youth and Learning program.

In addition to my professional background, I have roughly a decade worth of experience as a volunteer (and professional) reading tutor and teacher. I worked with grade schools at Hancock and Horace Mann Elementary Schools as a volunteer tutor. I taught after-school classes at Battle Creek and Highland Park Junior High.
I am flexible and patient. I understand that reading and writing doesn't come easily to a lot of students. It is, in its own way, a skill not unlike hitting a golf ball or being a really good cook.
