ACT is one of my top subjects! I work with many high school juniors - including athletes - that often score a composite of 30 or above the very first time they take the ACT after completing ACT prep with me. I prepare students for all four sections of the new, STEM-focused ACT. Several of my students have earned full ride scholarships to their chosen college based on their ACT scores. I have been designing and teaching ACT prep courses since 1997. I tutor in person and online using the Wyzant platform.

I am a tutor and test prep coach. I am KY and TN state certified in middle school math. My comments on tutoring ACT : I have trained students to improve scores on the ACT. I perform well on standardized tests.

I was the Director of the Math and Science Lab at Volunteer State Community College for over twenty years. I taught and tutored the students in all of the college's math and science classes. I have worked with mathematics subjects from Basic Math to Differential Equations, including Statistics. My style of teaching is one that strives to bring an overall understanding of the importance and relevance of the subject at hand. I believe children, as well as all people, learn much better and have much greater retention when they understand the bigger picture involved and understand why it is important to learn the subject at hand. I believe in relating the topics to something the pupil can understand and therefore grasp. One of my greatest teachers was a chemistry professor who was able to explain a complicated chemistry concept in terms of a McDonald's Happy Meal. It was something we all could relate to and understand. A Little Bit About Me...

I try to communicate concepts in a simple and organized way and provide "shortcuts" whenever possible. I also try to keep in mind my own feelings and experiences as a learner of a foreign language (for me, Japanese). This helps me to be patient and understanding of the pressures and difficulties my students face. I use my own experiences as examples when trying to illustrate a point and give advice as a friend would. Hopefully this injects some humor and reality into my classes. I think I have taken my cues from the Japanese kindergarten teacher model, which is that of a big sister. I take responsibility for my students and serve as their role model; I am understanding and patient.
