My comments on tutoring Chess : I learned the game of Chess many years ago and have had experience playing many times over the years. I know the individual moves of all the pieces and the general goals and strategies to use in order to win the game.

I have worked with children and adolescents for over 30 years in various capacities and not only have a substantial amount of experience in varying types of special needs, but have very good rapport with children of all ages. I thoroughly enjoy them and they seem to pick up on that quickly. My approach to teaching revolves around determining the individual needs of the student, their strengths and weaknesses, and their particular learning style. I also feel it is very important to engage the student in participating as an important part of the learning process, gathering information on their likes and dislikes, their perception of their strengths and weaknesses, and what teaching techniques they feel work or do not work for them.

My comments on tutoring Chess : Ive been playing chess since I was a kid.

I like students to understand how the material they are learning can and is being applied to everyday situations. So I often will talk about the big topics that have been covered explain why they are useful and then show the student how to perform various calculations or apply the nessecary logic to solve problems.
I am a Mechanical Engineering and Geology dual major with a 3.6 GPA. I understand mathematics very well and have tutored fellow students in math and physics, successfully for years. I have a passion for learning and love when I can help others learn complex material and pass classes. I have worked and volunteered to teach or tutor students in academic and physical training. I understand both the desire to learn and the resistance to it having three of my own sons. I have taught English in China, tutored Math for middle school students, Math, Chemistry, and Physics for high school and college, and programming for college level. My approach is to establish a relationship with small talk and introductions. A parent must be present at all times. I will keep up with the child's work load in the respective subject and also be in contact with their teacher. But my inital style will be repetition, which I found to be most productive during my time in the military. However, I realize that there many different methods to teaching.
