My comments on tutoring Chess : Ive been playing chess since I was a kid.

I like students to understand how the material they are learning can and is being applied to everyday situations. So I often will talk about the big topics that have been covered explain why they are useful and then show the student how to perform various calculations or apply the nessecary logic to solve problems.
I am a Mechanical Engineering and Geology dual major with a 3.6 GPA. I understand mathematics very well and have tutored fellow students in math and physics, successfully for years. I have a passion for learning and love when I can help others learn complex material and pass classes. I have aced College Math up through Differential Equations and Calculus 3 algebra, trigonometry and geometry are foundations of the higher mathematics and therefore I understand them extremely well. My comments on tutoring Chess : I learned the game of Chess many years ago and have had experience playing many times over the years. I know the individual moves of all the pieces and the general goals and strategies to use in order to win the game.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked and volunteered to teach or tutor students in academic and physical training. I understand both the desire to learn and the resistance to it having three of my own sons. I have taught English in China, tutored Math for middle school students, Math, Chemistry, and Physics for high school and college, and programming for college level. What I have discovered about myself is that I learn differently from other people. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different. It is meaningless to say that a child is intelligent. There are many kinds of intelligences. Some children are more intelligent in memorization. Others are intelligent in solving problems. It is best to discover the child's strengths and weaknesses and adapt a program to each and every child.
