Amber D - Tallahassee, FL 32304 (20.6 mi) - Hearing Impaired Tutor - $38.00/hr.
I am a very attentive person who reaches children where they are with respect to learning. I prefer to differentiate instruction based on a child's learning style, comprehension level, and prior knowledge. I am a very positive, motivational person who gives lots of positive reinforcements during the learning process. Throughout my undergraduate years, I knew that educating youth was something I was very passionate about so I made sure to not ignore my passion. I completed a minor in Education including such courses as: Classroom Reading, Evaluation and Measurement in Education, Core Classroom Management Strategies, Intro to Special Education, and Young Adolescence. Also, I have had several hands-on experiences including, an opportunity to tutor students one-on-one at an elementary school, and to serve as a classroom assistant at both an elementary and middle school.

Adrienne L - Tallahassee, FL 32303 (21 mi) - Hearing Impaired Tutor - $36.50/hr.
During my 12 year teaching career for the Kyrene Elementary School District, I wore many hats within the special education department ranging from the classroom to administrative duties. I was trained as a district "trainer of trainers" for a phonics based decoding reading instruction program and taught within my district and surrounding districts as well. I also worked for the local community colleges as adjunct faculty teaching potential special education teachers the same type of reading program. I have extensive experience with 1:1 tutoring as well as small and large group instruction. I believe in a multi sensory approach to teaching any subject matter. I believe in fostering academic and emotional success for each student with whom I work. I strive to accomplish this through positive reinforcement (intangible and tangible), humor and thorough knowledge of the subject matter at han

Learning needs to have importance to a student. They need to understand why they need to learn the things they are being taught. Then it makes more sense to them. If possible, teach to their strengths. If they like computers, find a website that gives them practice. If they are better writers than listeners, have them dictate and read it back to you. Flashcards work well for some while others have difficulty remembering things. It all depends on the strengths of that child as to what is the best way to teach. I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade special education for the last twenty years. I have had experience working with students who were struggling learners including my own child. Sometimes teaching means showing a different way to do it. I have learned the skills needed for students to learn and remember what they have learned. I have tutored many students and a

As a special needs teacher, I have worked with many students who simply needed someone to show them a different way to learn the material. Learning can be made so much easier when taught in a format that is fun. This makes it enjoyable and more likely to be remembered. In a tutoring one-on-one kind of setting, times tables could be taught with a deck of cards and using the two numbers thrown out as the problem. Reading and writing can be done by taking pictures and creating a story from the pictures you have taken. It costs the price of a throw away camera and the students love it. I bleieve learning must be fun. I am a very patient, soft spoken person who understands what it is like to struggle. I also had difficulty learning in school and wish someone would have taken the time to notice I wasn't being 'lazy' but really had a hard time comprehending and remembering what I read.
