My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics.

I am passionate about Biology and have a lot of fun teaching it. I aim to make studying biology interesting to students and hopefully fun for them too. I believe that, with just a little help, anyone can learn Biology content and maybe even learn something they can use outside of the classroom!
I graduated from Illinois State University in 2009 with a BS in Biological Sciences and I am currently working towards my certificate in teaching secondary education. A Little Bit About Me...

I have had practical experience working as a microbiology level I technician for a major pharmaceutical company. My primary duties included many of the bench chemistry and laboratory biology techniques from college. I have completed one year of post bachelor's education at Illinois State University and am currently one semester shy of obtaining my type 09 high school teaching certification. While at ISU, I was a graduate level teaching assistant and was responsible for teaching several lab sections of Biology 101. I have documented over 100 clinical hours in a high school setting and am currently serving as a member of the Illinois Army National Guard.
