My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. I will work to develop their critical thinking skills and will challenge them, so that they are not just passive learners but active participants in the cognitive process. As an undergraduate, I was selected to be a tutor in the on-campus tutoring center, where I tutored students in all the sciences. This was where I discovered my talent and passion for tutoring and teaching. After college, I worked part-time as a para-professional tutor for a local junior college. Once I married and started a family, I used my MS in Biology to its full advantage by working part-time as an adjunct professor in Biology for local colleges.
I find that most students just don't know how to study Biology. I like to assess the students' familiarity and background with the subject and then discuss study options. Some people resond to flash cards, others to practice tests, and still more to oral quizzing. Maybe it needas to be a combination, but we work until we find a system that works. Then we tackle the subject material.

I earned a BS in Genetics and a Masters of Education. I taught biology, physical science, ecology, and human anatomy in 2 public high schools in Georgia. A Little Bit About Me...

What makes me a great tutor is my patience and understanding of a student in need. I believe all children are capable of success but sometimes may need a little extra help to get there. My teaching style is one of comparisons and analogies. Sometimes students just do not understand the mathematical terms. For this reason, I compare problems to something the student is familiar with, allow them to see the connection to the problem at hand and then guide them to solving the problem. I have been involved with tutoring at a very young age. I remember being in elementary school reading to the younger children that could not read. I am an advocate of every child receiving a fair chance at success in education. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Cellular Biology, enabling me to gain a thorough appreciation of math and science at all levels.
